Holy smokes! It's been almost close to a year since I've posted anything!! Geez. Anyways, I was having a conversation via chat with my friend Orange, and decided to do some impulsive drawing/sketching. However, my wacom tablet is still in the bay area and I felt like doing some digital artwork. With all that said I decided to paint (not the brightest idea) using my optical mouse (dun, dun, duuuun!). Yup, it wasn't so bad... but it wasn't so great either. It's DO-able, but to avoid carpel tunnel or tendonitis I do not recommend it one bit! OK, each drawing probably consisted of 15 min. or more, but I had fun. And maybe that's all that matters: having fun and enjoying the process :) Well I should get back to 3D-land soon. As much as I love 3D, I still have to admit how much of a pleasure it is to draw digitally or better, traditionally. (^_^)

It's been a GREAT time modeling this vehicle. I had a great time doing some of the details, and even modeling some of the small stuff like the shovel and ax.

As for the changes from the 1st pass, there's more detail in the interior, and the model is all converted into subdivisions (it's smoother, oooh) . I also had some fun modeling in nurbs on the seat belt latch on the door(or the lack of).

ambient occlusion

Hello world! It's been a bit busy on my end. And I've been doing passes on my environment project. So here's an ambient occlusion pass of the set. I've been learning more about using some scripts that will help my pipeline process of this project work faster, along with nCloth. I wish there was more time to look around other venues in Maya, but so far my main focus is getting everything modeled at its best. There's so much work to be done just by looking at this image! But I'm really excited about working on it, and so far it's been a blast! :D

Aside from my environment project, I've been modeling another vehicle. I love doing environments, but I also have a great time modeling vehicles too. I'll probably post some images once it's in a good stage :) Hope everyone's doing great, and enjoy the last weeks of summer!!

Can you believe it's already July?! Holy smokes, where did June go? Anyways, I'm posting up an image of a theater set I did for a friend. Afterwards, I decided to keep building on it, putting some detail on the theater. (the file sizes can get huge once you use subD's and nurbs!) I used nurbs for most part of the decoration. I have to admit I do enjoy Maya's nurbs. Well, I hope everybody has a GREAT 4th of July weekend! :)

Mental Ray

Hello, and welcome again. I've been studying a bit more on mental ray, and as much as I love how it handles my render... it is slow. At least, on my machine it is. But wow! it does make my shots look pretty :) I used final gather for a couple of primitive polys and it took a while to render out the image, and since my shots are pretty dense I was expecting to wait a bit. Turns out final gather didn't take too long (yay!) as much as my ambient occlusion renders. The only reason why my renders took longer was my lack of knowledge of assigning render layers. Anyways, if you've read this far... congratulations!! Thank you for reading my blabberings from my modeling-crazy obsessed mind :) Stay tuned.....

How is everybody doing? I hope everybody is doing good. On my side, the weather's been rather erratic. It's gotten up to the lower 90's over on my side and then dramatically dropping. I'm a fan of cold weather, but having roller coaster weather changes is no fun. Anyways, besides the weather I'm modeling away on my environment. Here is the 'west' side building of my project. Aside from the creative and technical struggles, I had a blast creating this section of my environment. I'm not a nurbs pro, but using them made me see the appeal of why people use nurbs on their models. (Such smooth surfaces! ~ ) And yes, I had to change to the default material since the light blue that I was using was too hard to see around my model. Oh, it's still polygon mode too. I can't dare convert to SubD's for the sake of my computer going crazy... at least, not yet anyway. Alright, well I wish everybody a great Memorial Day weekend! Have a good one!

I feel like Dorothy from Wizard of Oz seeing how colorful my scene is when I add material colors. Most of the time I'm used to using grey lambert's and haven't thought of adding different colors. Now, it's so much more easier to view my buildings. So here's a polygon preview of what's been going on. Some parts of the buildings look really primitive, but with subdivisions and adding more details it'll look much more organic and intricate in later versions ( I hope). I tried rendering a couple buildings, but my computer seems to go bonkers using mental ray. Times like this makes me drool over Mac Pro's 8 core processor (oooh) :D

I am currently working on a very exciting personal environment project right now. I'm always excited when I create new models, but I'm really excited and feel really strong about this project. I love architecture in general, as well as drawing environments as well (I'm sure the people from my art school would know). This environment will be a courtyard that has numerous medieval looking building structures, both consisting of hard surface and organic shapes. As for the images above, I apologize for the bad aliasing on the occlusion passes. It's my first time making the images in Maya (using mental ray! very awesome tool) It's been really exciting, and challenging but I'm really looking forward to modeling the rest of the buildings. For those who are wondering, I'm using subdivisions. I'll be sure to post more images once my models are ready! Stay tuned :) I hope everyone's doing good!!!

So it's been a while since I posted anything again. And it's been a while since I've posted anything in 3D, so here is my excercise in Maya. The first version is just all in Maya, and then I used Mudbox to give more detailed work. (sorry, I'm no master in lighting)...I haven't used Mudbox in a while, but I love how intuitive it is! ( I don't have ZBrush 3 ). Anyway, it's nothing too exciting. And it's still a work in progress. I'll post more once I put more detail in the hand.

Yes, it's a repeat of my tank, but adding ambient occulusion is still a neat effect on looking at your model....... I'm on a dry spell on what to model next, so right now I'm doing some brainstorming. Maybe something organic would be cool, but I do enjoy doing hard surfaces too. Decisions, decisions....

So, it's been a while since I posted so I figured I post something I've been working on for the past couple weeks. This is my second attempt of modeling this moose, which is still a work n progress. I still need to work around the mouth area, and the ears. The first time, I used patched modeling in nurbs using XSI and I'm probably 75% done with that. It wasn't an easy process, and I have to admit that I prefer using polygons anyday. With this model I did use a little bit of curves, but 80% of it is polys. I think if I ever feel like doing patch modeling again, I might consider using MAYA. That is, IF the oppourtunity calls for it......

This is what Lesley approved. I'm probably gonna make some more changes for myself before I put it on my demo reel. I need to install pelt mapping for XSI and see if that plug in works, or else I'm manually gonna have to UV the character (which won't be that bad). I'm crossing my finger that the plug in will work!!! I redid the paws, ears and some minor tweaks on the body. Overall, it was fun modeling this pup!

Update on the puppy's head. Man, it changed a lot from the first draft~! A bit tired, but I know I won't quit until it's done. I think out of my 24 hour day, I'm modelling 15-19 hours out of it....which pretty much means that modelling is my life as of now. That and sleeping.

Ok a little tid bits for the puppy's head in Lesley's film. I just found out that after rendering the side view, the model looks really square, so I'm probably going to fix that. It's coming along, but still has a bit to go. The eye lids have some major issues, so I'll probably start fixing that after I get the shape of the head in a more correct shape. It's more exciting to do the head rather than the body, which is what a couple other people have told me, and I could'nt agree more.

Something I created while waiting for my renders. It's not exactly the Empire State Building, and I know there's details missing. Took approx 3-4 hours to do both the lighting and model. Lighting is really new to me, so it took me forever to even get the key light right.
Still debating about how to approach the windows....
